I am an experienced researcher and evaluator of health interventions and policies. I am versatile, applying skills and experience from positions at a number of well-regarded research institutes. My interests are extensive, mostly relating to service improvement, innovation, and models of healthcare. With Women’s Health as a key focus, as I reflect on what recent policy developments mean for progress in reducing the gender health gap. I am constantly seeking ways to contribute to efforts in closing health gaps in society – relating to gender and marginalised communities. Please explore the different themes under the ‘experiences’ tab to find out more.
Currently I am involved in a number of evaluations of ‘real world’ complex interventions and government Grants or policies covering a number of areas and topics: Women’s Health (Commissioning of women’s health services; Policy Research Unit, UCL); resource allocation for thalidomide survivors (NIHR evaluation of the Thalidomide Health Grant; RAND Europe); the impact of large infrastructure projects on mental health and wellbeing (WISH2; RAND Europe); and housing support for people who use alcohol and other drugs (D-SITAR; RAND Europe).
I have experience as a Research Leader developing proposal and managing teams of researchers, and was co-Principle Investigator for a National Institute and Health Research (NIHR)-funded award evaluating the government’s health grant for thalidomide survivors as they age. With a Ph.D. in the intersection between gender, social inclusion and mental health and an early career in older age psychiatry, my approach to research and evaluation considers wider influences on health and takes a life-course approach, particularly when thinking about the healthcare experiences of women.
I am motivated to tackle complex healthcare issues through innovative methods, paying close attention to the role of inequalities, and bringing on board as many voices as possible across sectors, levels of the healthcare system and life experiences. As a keen networker, I am open to joining forces with other freelancers, charity organisations, patients and the public, artists – wherever my services can be helpful to further the mission of improving the health and wellbeing of all, but most importantly, those most at risk of inequitable access to quality healthcare.
I provide research leadership through support on writing bids or proposals and short to long-term projects. I also offer help to organisations in the design of healthcare evaluations, through the development of evaluation frameworks or logic models, or the identification and resolution of barriers to implementation. For instance, by drawing on evidence to develop plans that reduce commonly-experienced barriers, or thinking through the most appropriate outcomes to evidence change. More specifically, I can offer assistance in:
